Golden: spirals in nature merge with cyclic motion of the mind

Updated: 5 days ago

Seashell on wet sand during sunset, with pink and orange hues reflecting on water. Waves gently roll in the background, creating a calm mood.

A pebble drops into a pond with a plop, setting the motion in action. The previously calm water is pleasantly disturbed as circular waves form, transforming the once serene environment from stillness to inspired movement.

Nature, in its abundant beauty, presents this exquisite design across various forms. The fern unfurls its pods, uncurling and stretching much like a young puppy curled up in a ball begins to explore the world. This circular spiral symbolizes growth and expansion.

Like our thumbprint reveals our unique individuality emerging from a shared oneness, the spirals signify and represent our personal identity. The concentric circles, akin to flesh and blood, are like a turbulent river shaped by our heartbeat.

As the conch shell develops and enlarges, it forms a hollow, gently firm spiral, curling inward as if seeking to explore its inner depths and listen to its own essence. The empty interior serves as a space for a symbiotic relationship between the snug resident and its firm yet accommodating host.

Gaze into the sky and join the dance of the galaxies, swirling and moving in a spherical pattern, as if the stars are dancing and reaching to kiss one another. They blend and glide through the waves of endless space, captivated by this design as if an unseen master is painting with a gentle sweep of the hand.

The remarkable mathematical principle of the golden ratio, often used in conjunction with the Fibonacci sequence, is considered the natural proportion of the universe. When this ratio is extended as a growth ratio, it creates a stunning spiral pattern. Our minds can also mimic spirals in nature and be observed as an expression of the golden ratio.

As the Buddha reminds us:

"We are not going in circles, we are going upwards. The path is a spiral; we have already climbed many steps."

Like the sunflower, which displays its full splendor in a spiral pattern, our mind can be envisioned as a vast opening, where circular experiences both revolve around themselves and expand simultaneously.

Every thought, action, and mental state is expressed through this development. As indicated by mathematical principles, skillful and positive thoughts and experiences create a golden spiral. In the Fibonacci sequence, where each number is the sum of the two preceding numbers, this growth factor can become extremely large in a short period.

By incorporating subtle yet significant gestures, thoughts, and mental formations into our daily lives, we create our own elegant golden spiral. This pattern appears universally, much like it does in nature. We are akin to a chameleon, perched on a sturdy new branch, showcasing our swirled tail for the world to admire and appreciate.

The flower blooms, unfurling its petals to present us with a vibrant new experience of joy and love. Similarly, the ocean waves curl over, reminding us of our capacity to navigate the mind with awareness and compassion.

Let's celebrate the remarkable marvel of the golden ratio, recognizing that each minor thought, action, and mental formation adds to a world of incredible spiral development. As we broaden our creativity and positivity outward, we simultaneously gaze inward towards introspection and self-awareness.

So, whether we are pondering the mysteries of the universe or just trying to find our way out of a corn maze, remember: the golden spiral is not just a shape; it’s a lifestyle. Just as the spiral expands, so too does our understanding and experience in life. So, buckle up and enjoy the ride—no dizziness guaranteed...mostly!

Cheers!

From here to there,

and everywhere in between!"
